We are so excited to welcome you to our Nursery page for new parents. We can't wait to meet you when things are better but for now we would love it if you have a look at the information we have included on this page. It should give you an overview of what life is like in Nursery at St John's. We follow the EYFS curriculum and learn through a wide range of play based, active learning opportunities in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.
We hope you find the information on this page helpful and we are looking forward to meeting you all soon.
In Nursery, we use the Tapestry learning journal app to record evidence of learning for each child. We are able to share this with parents and carers, which provides a great home - school link and enables teachers and parents to be part of their child's learning journey.
Over the summer holidays, we ask you to complete a 'summer scrapbook' with your child and return it to school for us to share in September. The scrapbook is a great way for us to get to know your child's interests and also provides a great basis for talk and discussion. You can include anything at all in the scrapbook, from playing with toys, going to the cinema or a walk in the park. The children can draw pictures or stick in photos, tickets or anything else they would like to include.
At St John's, we use the Read, Write Inc letter formation rhymes to ensure we are forming our letters correctly and starting at the correct starting point to write. We say the rhymes as we write the letters. If you would like to use the sheet to practise our writing rhymes at home, that would be great.
At St John's, we feel parental partnership is a very important part of the children's learning journey. We want you to be fully involved in your child's learning. We have our own class blog page where we regularly post learning updates and learning stories. Parents are also encouraged to blog on our page and comment on blog posts. We also keep in touch with parents using our school Facebook page to share events, information and to celebrate learning.
At St. John’s, we are a Storytelling School. This approach starts in the Early Years and is then used across school.
