What is a Rights Respecting School?
The Rights Respecting Schools Award puts children’s rights at the heart of school life in the UK. UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
The Rights Respecting School award recognises a school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond.
Our RRS Journey
We began our RRS journey in 2022 and are very proud to be a Bronze Accredited Rights Respecting School. We are on our journey to becoming a Silver Accredited school. As a school, we celebrate and value all of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We have weekly assemblies focusing on a different right from the convention.
Classroom Charters
This year, each class has worked with their teacher to create a class charter. They have chosen an Article from the UNCRC to explore and include in their charter. The class charter is a way of ensuring that we work together to ensure everyone is able to enjoy their rights.
