This week Year 2 are Sculptors and have been creating clay tiles and adding sculptures of the natural world (flowers, mountains, volcanoes, waves and beaches). They have been inspired by multi-media artist Gwen Lafleur and have used an assortment of natural resources and a variety of techniques such as platting, coiling, embedding and pinching.
This week Year 4 have been sculptors. The children have used clay to create sculptures in the style of Kimmy Cantrell. They have learned how to use the score and slip method to ensure that their features stick to the base and don’t fall off. Well done Year 4, we can’t wait to see them once they are painted.
Year 3 have become artist and have sculptured their own pinch pots. They are really proud of them and used clay and different tools to create their own designs.
We then painted them in colours of our choice and evaluated our final creations.
Today Year 6 played the game ‘Traitors’ with their reading texts. They had to answer the questions whilst also trying to decide which of their team was trying to sabotage them!
Last week Nursery started learning about the habitats of farm animals. To help us to learn about farm animals, we enjoyed reading the story, 'What the Ladybird Heard.' We then re-told the story through small world toys. We also enjoyed drawing pictures from the story.
Year 5 continued their studies learning about the coast this week. They learnt more about coastal erosion and the crack, cave, arch, stack and stump process. To aid their recall of this, the children used clay to construct a model of this phenomenon and wrote sentences to explain how each stage occurs.
This week, year 4 were able to show off all their amazing work that we have done recently. In coding, the children created their name and shapes on Turtle Academy. In Music, the children performed songs on the glockenspiels. In Art, the children demonstrated their incredible artistic skills in the style of Kimmy Cantrell. In Maths, the children tested their times tables knowledge and finally, in English, the children performed some of their recent stories to parents. It was amazing to be able to show all of the great work we have been doing and the children absolutely loved it!
