This week we have continued to look at fractions in maths. We have been finding unit fractions of sets of objects. We used concrete materials to support our understanding.
This week, year 5 continued their DT topic making sweet/savoury muffins. We started by sensory tasting a range of ingredients, looking at the method, writing the recipe and then making the muffins. The classroom smelt amazing and they tasted delicious!
On Thursday, it was World Maths Day. As year 5 have been learning about decimals in maths, we decided to race each other on the playground and record our time. We then practiced rounding the decimals and converting them into fractions.
Today is World Maths Day. Year 3 have taken their maths learning outdoors. We used our fractions knowledge, our angle knowledge and our times table knowledge and applied into the outdoors. After half term we will be looking at measurement so we had a station reviewing what we already know. It’s amazing how much maths fun you can have outdoors.
This week Year 3 were lucky enough to have a visit from Reverend Owen from one of our Salford Church’s. Mrs Owen came into school to share what Easter looks like in her church. We discussed special events, how the church prepares and what she has to wear and why. Year 3 really impressed her with their existing knowledge and impeccable behaviour. Well done Year 3 you made us proud once again.
On Friday we celebrated Vision and Values day. We went round a carousel of activities with each one being linked to a different school value:
- We wrote positive messages on love hearts for the value of love.
- We thought about things we want to say sorry for or be forgiven for whilst holding special paper that then disappeared when we put it in water for the value of forgiveness.
- We planted some seeds and will watch these grow with our help for the the value of faith.
- We worked as teams to build a structure using magnetic tiles for the value of friendship.
- We worked in pairs to guide our friend around an obstacle course with their eyes closed for the value of trust.
It was a great afternoon!
