Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This week we have started our Art topic. We have focussed on different shading techniques and colouring mixing. After the holidays, we will continue with Art and work on our sketching skills.
Year 1 have been discussing how we are respectful and tolerant of others. We played a game - we all had different coloured card and had to stay with the children with the same coloured card. We discussed whether it was right to just stay with our colours. We decided that it didn't matter which colour card we had, we should all be respectful of each other and shared our thoughts with a friend who had a different coloured card.
This week, we started our new art topic. We reviewed the work of Banksy, Georgina Luck and Francoise Nielly. We had a great time critiquing their work.
Year 3 have produced some incredible art work this week inspired by artist Paul Klee. We explored cubism and created our own city scape. We used oil pastels and water colours to make our masterpieces stand out. 🎨🖍️
Year 4 have created some fantastic art pieces based on perspective. They used the skills taught over the last 2 weeks to produce some fabulous pieces.
This week Reception is learning about the artist Georges Braque. We are taking inspiration from his work and creating our own masterpieces. Yesterday, we practiced printing techniques to create textured backgrounds. Today, we learned about primary colours and experimented with colour mixing. Tomorrow, we will be cutting out abstract shapes from our colour mixed papers and using them to collage onto our textured backgrounds. We are very excited to see how they turn out!
Nursery have started learning about birthdays this week. We did a 'Let's Say' and pretended it was Mummy Bear's birthday. Everybody thought of different ideas about how we could celebrate. We then enjoyed writing invitations and then having a pretend party in the home corner.
'Let's Say'
Year 1 have been fabulous scientists this week, they have been examining animal poo (play dough) to determine whether the animals were Carnivores, Herbivores or Omnivores.
Today we are celebrating Vision and Values Day - we have discussed our school values and the British values on our values wheel. Our day has focussed on the British values of Tolerance and Mutual Respect - the children made many insightful comments about them importance of feeling part of a group and celebrating each others differences. The story of ‘Along Came Different’ supported our learning and we experienced what it would be like to be in certain groups that don’t accept each other. Luckily, this experiment did not last long and we were soon all back sitting together, with our friends, having fun! This afternoon, we have created our own ‘being different is the best thing ever’ collages, full of our favourite things!
This week Year 3 have started their Art topic focusing on ‘Drawing, painting and colour’. We have started experimenting with different grades of pencils - exploring cross hatching and blending. We then looked at work by Picasso and explored using charcoal to achieve different tones.
