We have designed and created a sculpture using clay. We used different tools to create patterns and lines.
Before half-term Reception learned about the artist Lorien Stern and how she turns things that she grew up fearing into colourful and happy works of art. Today reception painted the clay bears they had made with bright colours inspired by her work.
This week, year 5 started their new science topic. We did an enquiry lesson about space and asked lots of thought provoking questions. We then spent time researching different planets on the devices to find out facts.
This half year, Year 4 have been exploring the artist Karla Schuster. The children have looked at different printing techniques and are using their knowledge of collage to create a piece in the style of Karla Schuster.
Year 2 have been focussing on writing sentences that are dictated by someone else. This is a great skill to practise as by dictating what the sentence will say, allows the children to focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar. The children have coped really well with trying out this new writing technique. We have seen a big improvement in their spelling too this half term - keep up the good work, Year 2!
This week Nursery are learning about Lunar New Year. We have been making dragons and trying to pick up pom poms with chop sticks. We are also going to be going around the world to see how it is celebrated in different countries.
Year 6 have been learning all about light. We spoke about both reflection and refraction. We worked as security guards to position mirrors in order to reflect the lasers and protect the vaults. We have also observed the phenomenon of refraction and can explain why this happens.
This week Year 3 started their English topic by become researchers. We worked together to read information about ‘Woolley Mammoths’ and ‘Sabre-toothed tigers’. 🐯 🦣. We highlighted information from the text that we could use in our box up. We thought about the animals diet, characteristics and interesting facts.
This week, year 5 have finished their art topic. We used hot glue and fabric to batik and then painted once the fabric was dry. We then added detail such as stitching on buttons and ribbon.
This week in computing we developed our understanding of sequencing by having the opportunity to to combine motion and sound in one sequence. We learnt how to use costumes to change appearance of a sprite, and backdrops to change the appearance of the stage.
