Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Yesterday year 3 had the most incredible trip to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester. We took part in a Roman day. We started the day with a Roman workshop looking at why the Romans came to Britain. We had the chance to explore artefacts and become detectives for the session. We also took part in a Roman soldier tour. We carried shields through Chester City centre to the amphitheater for formation training. The whole of the city knew we were there with our amazing chanting. Brilliant day had by all.
Nursery had a lovely time in Reception. We are definitely ready to move into our new classroom.
Year 2 have been learning about life cycles in Science. On Wednesday, we went to Trentham Monkey Forest to learn more about macaques including how they grow, what they eat, how to identify male and females and how they interact within their social circles. We also learnt how they are endangered with only 8,000 left in the wild and discussed why their conservation work at Trentham is important. We were also lucky enough to see some new born monkeys (only 3 weeks old.)
Year 4 have begun their money topic in mathematics. They have worked hard on converting money from pounds to pence and pence to pounds. They have compared and estimated amounts of money and have now begun to calculate amounts and work out change. Well done Year 4 you are superstars!
This week Year 3 have started their measurement topic looking at mass and capacity. We used scales to compare masses and measuring jugs to compare capacity. We found that it’s not always the biggest thing that’s the heaviest and not always the tallest container that holds the most.
This week year 2 have been working on column subtraction. We started practically with our tens and ones and then learned the written method for our books. After practicing without crossing a 10 we learned how to exchange numbers. The children have blown us away with their subtraction skills.
Today, Year 6 got to participate in a triathlon organised by the Brownlee Foundation. We raced a course involving swimming, cycling and running. We had a fantastic time and loved cheering one another on. Keep an eye out for those Olympic medals in our future!
Today Year 1 visited Trentham Monkey Forest and a brilliant day was had by all. We saw lots of monkeys and cute, baby ones too. The park was another highlight and they loved playing on all the equipment. The children represented St. John’s so well with their behaviour. Well done Year 1!
Year 4 have been super scientists in our new electricity topic. They have explored circuits and electrical components. We investigated how and why a circuit works. Well done Year 4!
Our Year 6 pupils have been planning activities for our Early Years children. They loved delivering them this afternoon and everyone worked so well together!
