Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Year 4 have started their new story cycle on the story of Prometheus. They have created some fabulous story maps and acted out the story with a partner. Well done Year 4!
Reception have been really enjoying reading books that we have read in class. They are super storytellers when using the props to retell a familiar story.
Year 6 have been investigating the use of CAMs to create reciprocating motion. They created their one cardboard prototypes to see how the shape of the CAM would affect the motion of the follower. They will use all of this information in their designs later this week!
Year 4 have been exploring the work of Karla Schuster. They have explored the use of different materials to make a collage and how they can be applied to create texture. They have begun to create their own collage animal using different types of paper and printing. Well done Year 4!
This week Year 2 have been Artists. They have designed and created a loom based off the textile artist Diedrick Brackens. They designed either a repeating or abstract pattern in their books and then transferred this onto lollipop sticks to create their looms. They have then started to weave their designs using wool and the results are fantastic!
This week in art the children have been exploring artist Angie Lewin and how her use of materials, colour and patterns can showcase the best of nature and allow it to stand out within its surroundings.
This week Y2 have started looking at the story Our Tower by Joseph Coelho for story telling week. To build ideas for their writing we explored the school grounds to find secret passageways into magical worlds. Once the children had identified a passage they designed the magical world that they think would be hidden behind it. We then used drama to deepen by acting out going into our world and imagining how we would feel.
This week we have been spending time practicing our sentence writing skills. We have been writing these independently then sharing our sentences with the rest of the class. Our big focus has been on using our ‘tappy pencil’ and tapping each word we have written to help us know what our next word is to write. We have been blown away with the children’s independence this week, it’s been amazing to see their growth in confidence during these lessons!
Reception visited Church to look for key items within Church. They worked extremely hard and could discuss the items found.
This week Year 4 started their new English unit. We are participating in National Storytelling Week and on Monday we had a live lesson with author Tola Okogwu who wrote the exciting ‘Onyeka’ series. She gave us some top tips on how to create our own stories. We can wait to see characters and stories unfold this week.
