This week, we explored the text ‘Big’ by Vashti Harrison. On Friday, we participated in a Puffin virtual visit with the author to explore the book further.
This week we have been exploring rocks. We have become ‘Earth Scientists’ and have been sorting rocks, exploring sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks and also been exploring whether a rock is permeable or impermeable.
This week Year 4 have started their new science topic on states of matter. We have explored the properties of solids, liquids and gases. This afternoon we carried out an investigation to find out if gas weighs anything using different bottles of fizzy pop.
Well done year 4, what a brilliant start to the topic.
This week we have created a timeline of famous heroes. We then learnt all about Mark Addy, a famous Salford hero. The children are so enthused by our current history topic and it’s so lovely to hear and see.
Last week in Reception we learnt all about Remembrance Sunday. We created fine motor poppy fields using pipette and paint.
We are just loving reading in Year 5 at the minute.

We had a Zoom with the author Jamie Littler who wrote Arkspire. We all had a brilliant time and loved the draw-along. We are now really inspired to write our own stories!
Last week Nursery enjoyed going on a walk around our local area. We enjoyed looking at the cars on the road and talked about the different vehicles that we could see.
This week, Year 2 are Performers.
Rehearsals are in full swing for the Christmas Production of “It’s a Party!” and Year 2 have been rehearsing their lines and actions for the show.
They have been rehearsing 3 songs this week and the choreography is looking fabulous! We have been appraising each of the songs in our music lessons discussing the tempo and pitch of each piece.
In History this half term we have been investigating Alan Turing and L S Lowry. This week we looked at some paintings of Manchester and Salford by Lowry and decided how reliable they were as sources compared to photographs.
