Today Year 6 worked on building atmosphere in their writing. We wrote video diaries based on our story ‘The Skeleton Woman’ and used punctuation and short sentences to put our audience on edge. We really loved performing them!
In Science, Year 3 have been exploring the properties of rocks, how rocks are formed and the uses of rocks today.
The children have ordered rocks based on how they look and feel then considered if they are sedimentary, metamorphic or igneous rocks and made some of their own with chocolate. They have tested how permeable a range of rocks are using containers of water and nails to scratch the surface to test their durability.
Year 2 have been looking at the religion of Christianity and how good news is spread. We have looked at how angels spread the word of God and today children identified key sacred words in a passage of the bible when the Angel Gabriel told Mary the news that she would give birth to the Son of God. Children then deepened their learning and came up with a question for either the Angel Gabriel or Mary and asked their partners.
On Tuesday we had a very exciting values day. Year 1 focused on the value of ‘Faith’. We started our day by reading the story of ‘David and Goliath’ and discussed how David showed faith in God. We create story maps, songs, a class prayed and ‘shields of faith’.
This week, Year 5 picked books that they have loved reading and would recommend to others. They spent time talking about their book in class, discussed what attracted to them to the book and why they liked it so much. The children then got a chance to present their recommendation in front of both classes and parents who came to watch.
This week, Year 4 have been exploring the Christian value of Friendship. We looked at the story of David and Jonathan and how their friendship overcomes the bad. We acted out the story and also created some beautiful friendship prayers. Year 4 also explored the value of love during our RE lesson this week. They produced some fantastic art work showing their own perceptions of Jesus being the light of the world. Well done, Year 4!
This week, we started our new topic on The Industrial Revolution. We started by positioning the event in history. We looked at the chronological order of historical events we knew and discussed how many periods run concurrently.
This week Year 2 have been history detectives. We investigated a range of sources from The Great Fire of London including a newspaper article, a diary entry, a map and some artefacts. The children then discussed which of these they believed to be the most reliable sources of information and which were the least reliable and why.
This week Year 4 have started their science topic all about states of matter. We looked at how the particles move within a solid, liquid and a gas.
This week, Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from the mathematician Anthony Reddy. He worked with the children to find new ways to work out calculations as well as playing lots of fun maths related games. A great time was had by all!
